Tread Depth Guide
Legal minimum: 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tread, around the entire circumference.
The 20p test: Insert a 20p coin into the tread groove. If you can see the outer band of the coin, your tread is below 1.6mm and the tyre is illegal.
Recommended: Replace commercial van tyres at 3mm — stopping distances increase dramatically below this point.
